Legendary R&B group 702 (pronounced “Seven-Oh-Two”) will celebrate their 30th anniversary this October 2026, marking three decades of chart-topping hits, cultural influence, and timeless music that continues to inspire generations.
Named after the area code of their hometown, Las Vegas, Nevada, 702 rose to prominence in the late 1990s with their platinum-selling debut album No Doubt, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Heat seekers chart. The group’s early success was powered by standout collaborations with Missy Elliott, who co-wrote and produced several tracks including the breakout hit “Steelo.” The song became a cultural staple, serving as the theme for Nickelodeon’s Cousin Skeeter, while “All I Want” was featured in the hit film Good Burger. Their third single, “Get It Together,” soared to No. 3 on the Billboard R&B chart and No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, solidifying their mainstream success.
Their debut earned them a Soul Train Lady of Soul Award in 1997. 702 has sold over 4,000,000 copies worldwide to date. They have also toured alongside R&B icons including New Edition, Keith Sweat, Blackstreet, etc. The group’s momentum continued with their gold-certified, self-titled sophomore album 702, featuring the smash single “Where My Girls At?” — a Missy Elliott-produced anthem that peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1R&B Billboard Hot R&B /Hip-hop songs chart. It became one of the defining songs of its era and stayed on the charts for over 20 weeks. The album’s success earned additional Soul Train Lady of Soul Award, and American Music Award nomination and further cemented the group’s place in R&B history.
Throughout their career, 702 collaborated with a range of industry heavyweights including Donell Jones, Faith Evans, Clipse, and producers such as The Neptunes, Mike City, and Kevin “She’kspere” Briggs. They also made memorable appearances in television and film, including Sister, Sister, Moesha, and the Men in Black soundtrack.
After disbanding following their third studio album in 2006, 702 reunited in 2017, reintroducing their sound and legacy to fans worldwide. Since then, they have delivered standout performances at major platforms including the Soul Train Music Awards, Black Music Honors, ESSENCE Festival, and BET Her Live, as well as appearances on The Tamron Hall Show. Their recent touring highlights include a sold-out 20-city tour alongside Xscape, SWV, Total, and Mýa, and performances at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall with DJ D-Nice and DJ Cassidy.
In September 2023, the group and fans around the world mourned the heartbreaking loss of founding member Irish Grinstead, honoring her enduring impact and legacy as part of the group’s journey.
