Artist Bio
SHALAMAR has been a hit making machine on the pop and R&B charts for decades, with one smash hit after another like “Second Time Around,” “Dancing In The Sheets,” “A Night To Remember,” “This Is For The Lover In You,” “Make That Move,” and “Dead Giveaway.”
The group’s staying power has been led by sultry-voiced lead singer Howard Hewett from Akron, Ohio. His voice is well-known worldwide, for delivering smooth and enticing powerful vocals. SHALAMAR hit “eighties solid gold” with the addition of blues-rock flamboyant guitarist Micki Free, and their multi-platinum-selling song “Dancing In The Sheets” from the movie “Footloose.” SHALAMAR also earned a Grammy Award with the writing team of Howard and Micki, for the Eddie Murphy movie Beverly Hills Cop, for “Best Album Of Original Score Written For A Motion Picture.”
Micki Free was soon noticed by Prince, and through that friendship Micki was asked to join the Prince camp and co-star in Prince’s movie, The CoCo Boys. Unfortunately as things happen, making the movie never came to pass, but Micki and Prince continued to stay in touch until his passing. The Dave Chappelle comedy series Chappelle’s Show featured Charlie Murphy’s classic sketch “True Hollywood Stories,” which featured Micki and Prince playing basketball against Charlie and Eddie Murphy in the infamous game “Shirts Against The Blouses”.
